Illustrating words.

In this practice we had to illustrate five different concepts with a drawing, and exchange our drawings with other group which had to guess which concept we refer to each picture.

Our concepts were:
1. Indignantly
2. Wide
3. Deep
4. Blatant
5. Dismissively

-         Have you had any problem illustrating the concepts?

The concepts that we have to draw were very abstract and we were thinking some time about what we were going to do. But I think that we develop well, then we split the concepts and each did it, without any problems.

-         How it is easier to know what is the concept with a drawing or with a picture?

Always been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and schematic concept, a thought or an object is less reliable than a good illustration. I think, both, a drawing and a photo can be used for children to achieve meaningful learning, but sometimes a picture may be more realistic and better adapt to the reality than a drawing so the children can pick it best.

-         Why do you think the other group has had problems to guess the word?

We think that our exercise was successful because the other group has guessed three between five concepts, we think that the cause of they have failed two it was because there wasn’t clear enough maybe they were severely strained and sometimes a simple drawing is clearer.

We made drawings different concepts that the teacher has said. Some concepts were polysemous words we found different meanings for a proper represetation. These words were often abstract words. the drawings were done in different ways depending on the personality or way of being of each. Words such as "future" or "deep" we have found easier, however, words like "beligerent" or "dismissively" did not know well as represent them. By a few simple strokes we should explain some difficult concepts. Our companions had to guess and understand the concept through drawings. Being subjective drawings were not all easy to guess. This can be compared to the way a teacher does a little picture for your students to learn a new concept. From something as simple as was originally thought that we realize that not everything is as easy to represent. We must be as precise and expressive as possible for exercise to be effective. In our view we think that exercise is an interesting way to realize our level of expression and representation in media is not the word.

During our class, we work with an activity called “illustrating words”, it has been made before by Punya Mishra ( professor of Educational Psychology & Educational Technology at the College of Education at Michigan State University. He also direct the Master of Arts in Educational Technology program) he made this research with his students in his CEP 818 (Creativity in Teaching and Learning) using digital photography to explore a variety of topics related to trans-disciplinary creativity. This assignment works on so many levels, making us thinking about so different things.
